About This Course

Explore the history, theories and science of happiness, its relationship to well-being and the research-based concept that 40% of happiness is within your control. In this course, you will watch videos and complete activities from a variety happiness experts and even gain a global perspective from the happiest people in the world who live the longest based on “Blue Zone” research. Afterwards, you will assess your own happiness and reflect on common happiness myths. Time to get happy.

This course will take you approximately 5 hours to complete.

Learners who complete this course will earn a digital certificate of completion.

Dr. Cara Sidman
Lecturer
College of Health Solutions

Dr. Cara Sidman is a Lecturer and Administrator in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University where she oversees the interdisciplinary curriculum in the College of Health Solutions, and teaches courses focused on health, well-being, and happiness. She has been developing curriculum, coordinating, researching, and teaching online, hybrid, and face-to-face physical activity and lifetime wellness courses since 1999, and teaching and presenting on the topic of happiness since 2012.

Dr. Sidman earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction (Exercise & Wellness) from Arizona State University, her Master’s in Exercise Science from Appalachian State University (Boone, NC), and her Bachelor’s in Physical Education and Health from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. This has led her to a focus and passion for promoting happiness and well-being, including the many aspects of wellness and behavior change (i.e., spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical). Her research publication areas include mindfulness, exercise self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, sitting behaviors, and perceived wellness among college students, as well as the comparison of online, hybrid, and face-to-face course delivery formats.

Dr. Sidman co-created and taught an inaugural university studies happiness course at UNC-Wilmington, and currently presents at national, regional, and local levels on happiness strategies, happiness in the workplace, and cultivating a culture of happiness.
